Frequently Asked Questions

Can my scratch be repaired with G3 Pro?

G3 Pro Scratch Removers work effectively on minor scratches, those that haven’t penetrated through the top layer of the paint. Testing whether your scratch is classed as minor is easy. If you can run your fingernail across the scratch without your fingernail being caught by the scratch, it is considered minor and you can fully remove it with G3 PERMANENT Scratch Remover. If however your fingernail does get caught in the scratch, you will be able to reduce the visibility of the scratch but not fully remove it.

How do I repair a minor scratch myself?

Firstly, test whether your scratch is classed as minor and can be fully removed at home – see Can my scratch be repaired with G3 Pro? above. If it is minor, you can fully remove it with G3 PERMANENT Scratch Remover and the white G3 Applicator Waffle Pad using the following method:

  1. Lightly dampen the white G3 Applicator Waffle Pad with water
  2. Apply a small amount of G3 PERMANENT Scratch Remover to the applicator
  3. Work over the scratch using a straight back and forth motion starting left to right and then up and down
  4. Apply even pressure and repeat until the scratch is removed
  5. Remove residue and buff with a soft dry cloth
  6. Apply a wax such as G3 Resin Superwax or G3 SuperGloss Paste Wax over the area to seal in the finish

I have stains in my paintwork caused by bird droppings. How do I remove them?

  2. Apply a small amount of G3 PERMANENT Scratch Remover to the applicator

I have faded fingerprint stains on my car. What caused them and how do I repair them?

These are typically caused by hand creams and sun lotions. If you’ve just applied cream to your hands and open your car door before letting the cream absorb into your skin, the cream will transfer onto your paintwork and can eat away it – this is what causes the staining. The stains however can be restored with G3 PERMANENT Scratch Remover and the white G3 Applicator Waffle Pad using the following method:

  1. Lightly dampen the white G3 Applicator Waffle Pad with water
  2. Apply a small amount of G3 PERMANENT Scratch Remover to the applicator
  3. Work over the stain using a straight back and forth motion starting left to right and then up and down
  4. Apply even pressure and repeat until the stain is removed
  5. Remove residue and buff with a soft dry cloth
  6. Apply a wax such as G3 Resin Superwax or G3 SuperGloss Paste Wax over the area to seal in the finish

What is the difference between G3 PERMANENT Scratch Remover Paste and Liquid?

They are only different in their consistencies, and when deciding which one to use it is purely down to personal preference! As a general rule however, G3 PERMANENT Scratch Remover liquid is fluid and is designed to provide easy use when renovating multiple scratches over large surface areas; whereas G3 PERMANENT Scratch Remover paste is more solid and is mainly for use on localised scratches.

Can G3 PERMANENT Scratch Remover be used on painted plastics?

G3 PERMANENT Scratch Remover can be used on any painted surface on your car, including painted plastics.

Can G3 PERMANENT Scratch Remover be used on bare plastics or glass?

G3 PERMANENT Scratch Remover is designed to be applied by hand with a cloth or the white G3 Applicator Waffle Pad. You can however also use it with an orbital drive polishing machine at a speed of up to 1800rpm.
NB: Only use a polishing machine if you are a trained professional and/or are confident and experienced in using one.

What do I apply G3 PERMANENT Scratch Remover and Paint Renovator with?

For best results, we recommend you use the white G3 Applicator Waffle Pad. Specially engineered in conjunction with G3 PERMANENT Scratch Remover and Paint Renovator, the pad increases effectiveness, reduces effort and minimises wastage. It also distributes the pressure applied evenly across the pad, preventing you from applying too much pressure in a localised area and putting swirl marks in as you work. Alternatively, you can apply them with a microfiber cloth.

Do G3 PERMANENT Scratch Remover & Paint Renovator contain silicon?

No, both G3 PERMANENT Scratch Remover and G3 Paint Renovator are silicon free.

  1. Lightly dampen the white G3 Applicator Waffle Pad with water
  2. Apply a small amount of G3 Paint Renovator to the applicator
  3. Work over the faded area using a straight back and forth motion starting left to right and then up and down

What are swirl marks and how do I remove them?

They usually occur through wear and tear by, for example, automatic car wash brushes or washing your car with a dirty sponge. Swirl marks can be removed using G3 Paint Renovator and the white G3 Applicator Waffle Pad using the following method:

  1. Lightly dampen the white G3 Applicator Waffle Pad with water
  2. Apply a small amount of G3 Paint Renovator to the applicator
  3. Work over the swirl marks using a straight back and forth motion starting left to right and then up and down

  2. Spray G3 Bodyshop Detailer onto the area you are working on
  3. Gently work the G3 Body Prep Clay Mitt over the surface using light pressure and without allowing the surface to dry out

I have shampooed my car and the surface still feels ‘gritty’. What is this and what can I do to remove it?

After shampooing, there may still be ingrained, microscopic contaminants on the surface of your paintwork – this is what is causing the ‘gritty’ feel. You can remove them with the G3 Body Prep Clay Mitt, which has a unique rubber polymer technology and lifts bonded contaminant off the surface very easily. Use with G3 Bodyshop Detailer as a lubricant and follow this method:

  1. Shampoo your car with G3 Body Prep Shampoo to remove surface debris
  2. Spray G3 Bodyshop Detailer onto the area you are working on
  3. Gently work the G3 Body Prep Clay Mitt over the surface using light pressure and without allowing the surface to dry out
  4. Wipe off any residue with a clean microfiber cloth
  5. Repeat as necessary until the car surface feels silky smooth
  6. Before re-using your G3 Body Prep Clay Mitt, rinse off accumulated contaminants on the clay pad with water

How do I store my G3 Body Prep Clay Mitt in-between uses?

After use, the G3 Body Prep Clay Mitt needs to be allowed to dry out naturally – for this, you can hang it up on a hook using the tag/loop on the side. Once dried, you should then keep it in a resealable plastic bag.

What should I use to lubricate the G3 Body Prep Clay Mitt?

We recommend using G3 Bodyshop Detailer as a lubricant for the G3 Body Prep Clay Mitt as its gentle formulation will not degrade the clay pad.

How do I remove tar spots from my G3 Body Prep Clay Mitt?

As you work over your car’s surface, the mitt effectively removes small tar spots from the paint and these can sometimes stick to the clay pad. If you are having this issue, you can remove them by gently massaging undiluted Fairy Liquid into the spots.
